NJHS-
I thought I had posted this already- Delaney was inducted in the National Junior Honor Society. I was teased by a teacher that it was just for me, not her. Hmm... well, yeah, I'm happy she's not my only kid that didn't make it in, but I still think it's a good thing for her too. And, just to be caty, no wonder he's not teaching here next year. I don't think that's an attitude a teacher should have towards students showing leadership qualities and good grades. Just saying.
This was a night I hate as a parent. A night when my husband is out of town and two of my kids are doing something cool. I had to miss Maura's band concert (and seeing her letter) for this. I wish I could have cloned myself.

Yard updates- Here's a shot of the side of the house and the newly added planting boxes for blueberries.
I also have onions, lettuce and tomatoes growing here and a few herbs sharing the tomato box.
It might be awhile before we get blueberries, but I'm looking forward to them! The grass is coming in fairly well.

Here's a general shot of the backyard. The roses are looking fabulous! They are the only thing that survived the water issues in that corner. My cucumber trellis is up and the plants are just beginning to climb. Next to them are my hills for squash. I've even spent some time for the far back border, although truthfully, it's a work in progress. I've got some irises, daylillies, hollyhocks and I moved a peony there too. Still have a lot more to be done.

This year, these popped up in our yard. I think they are wild strawberries, but, they have yellow flowers, so I'm not sure enough to take a bite of them to find out.

Lastly, this is a shot of my first stained glass piece. I have a matching one in the other corner of the window. I have a long way to go before I am comfortable saying I'm good at this, but it's something I want to get good at. I have been playing around with glass scraps this week and getting more confident at cutting glass. I bought a glass grinder from a dealer on ebay and I'm very happy with how it works. I hope to make more things this summer when I'm not gardening and working on the house.

Maura's 16th Birthday-
Maura wanted her Birthday to have an 80's theme. She was torn between going to Springfield to an 80's arcade, or roller skating. In the end, she decided skating. We met at the park first to have the cake. JJ and Karri stopped by there as well as everyone else. Then we all went to the skating rink.
OK, so Maura was quite challenging about Steve's and mine ability to skate, so, of course, we had to prove her wrong. Being almost 50 and out of shape, skating is probably not the thing you should do, especially after a 20+ year hiatus. But, I think we did a good enough showing to win that challenge. Steve fell and pulled something, so he's not feeling too chipper at the moment.
At some point, Delaney started an air hockey winning streak until she hit Morrow. I think Maura enjoyed her day.

The NPR radio show, "what do you know?" came to Springfield for their show this week and Steve and I attended. It was fun and I know Steve really enjoyed seeing the a live radio show like this. The small reception after the show for a meet and greet.
