The Wilderness Road festival-
The festival is being held this weekend at the Reeds Spring Saddle Club arena. It is celebrating the making of the road, right after the civil war, which connected the rural Ozark mountain folks to Springfield, Mo, the nearest railroad stop. There are musicians and storytellers, the 'oldies" from the community, just telling what life was like earlier in this area, and some general civil war and geneology information. It's not a big festival, partly due to struggling to find a good home for it, but there's a lot of dedicated people trying to make this happen and grow.
Pictured above is the bluegrass band "Missouri Boatride". On the far left, playing the mandolin, is Mr. Webb. He was originally in a band called, "the Dillards". You might know them as "the Darlings" from the Andy Griffith show. As you can see, maybe the lighting isn't the most professional, but I loved the shadows cast on the tent above. You can see them every other saturday night, playing on the back of their old chevy truck, at the Kimberling City shopping center parkinglot from 8-10, bring a chair. Come listen to a legend.
